The Northville Township Police Department launched a “Lock It or Lose It” campaign last summer. While out on patrols, officers would leave a reminder card at homes where an unlocked car, window, house door or open garage door were found. 70% of larcenies in Northville occur with unlocked vehicles. Since June of 2019, officers have found 400 open garage doors during overnight hours while out on patrol.
To add to the statistics, On November 30,2019 during the morning hours, the Police Department had eleven reported larcenies from automobiles in the Northville Colony Estates neighborhood. All eleven vehicles were found unlocked and personal property was taken, including cell phones, credit cards and a shotgun. The stolen credit cards were used by the suspects shortly after in surrounding communities (Livonia, Novi and Waterford), totaling just under $400.
