A Few Reminders for Spring Landscaping

By | April 15, 2017

Now that the weather has improved & “green thumbs “ are itching to turn the soil, we want to offer a few tips:

–  Free compost is available from the Township Public Works yard on Doheny Drive.  For those of you who are not familiar with this location, Doheny Drive is located North of Seven Mile and East from Northville Road.  While it is free, my experience has been that since the township moved the pick up location from Beck Road, the compose quality is not as good.  It now requires filtering as it can contain rocks and other debris.

–  Association  Rules and Regulations (Page 18), Section 13.1 spells out the requirements for mulch, if you intent to add some around your unit:

“All mulch used in the additional landscaping must match the mulch used in the other Common Elements.  Mulch is to be of high quality Grade A hardwood (either maple or oak), double shredded bark with no more than 10% by-product.  Mulch is to be natural color and not dyed.  The material must be free of foreign materials including being free of soil and weeds.”
To prevent being in violation, do not use cypress mulch or red or black mulch.
The topic of where mulch will be applied this year by the Association is on this Wednesday’s Board meeting.   Hopefully, the Board’s decision can be published in next weeks issue of this newsletter.  Price will be one of the deciding factors.
